These days, much of the hype on the internet around AI is negative. 'The end of white collar working' and 'The coming jobpocalypse' are two of my favorites. Doom and gloom with no real proof to back it up.

I have a completely different view. I believe that the Age of AI is the greatest opportunity in history for subject matter experts to create wealth, influence, and legacy for themselves and for their families.

In this blog post, a companion resource for the AI Opportunity Roadmap and The Expert Revolution YouTube video, I'm going to show you how and why. It starts by giving you an overview of where we've come from, and where we're going, and then four concrete steps you can take right now to position yourself to win in the Age of AI.

If you're coming into this cold, the YouTube Video is below.

Before I get into my proposal to help you move forward, I want to frame the current AI Disruption with a less hyped and more objective view.

For roughly two decades, the internet was organized around what I call the 'Blue Link Ecosystem'. This ecosystem was largely governed and organized by what I call the World Indexer, also known as Google (with a few other search engines playing around the edges).

This era was a genuinely elegant system. Knowledge seekers typed a question, the world indexer would match it to a set of useful answers, and for all the times it might get these things wrong, it was incredibly powerful and efficient. There were many benefits delivered to society, such as an explosion in knowledge and easy answers to questions. Perhaps most importantly, over time, the stability and effectiveness of this system allowed an entire digital ecosystem to be created.

The road rules of this ecosystem were clearly defined and well understood:

  1. Quality knowledge meant traffic
  2. Traffic meant revenue
  3. The easier it was for your site to be found and ranked by the world indexer, the more likely it was that your quality knowledge would be found

These days, terms like SEO, content marketing, ad monetization, and SEO writing are common vernacular, and at each stage, clear systems to make money are known. In fact, I spent several years doing SEO Cybersecurity Ghostwriting - a field that didn't even exist when I first got into Cybersecurity!

At the center of this was the World Indexer

At the center of this was the world indexer. The world indexer created a system that enabled the following money flows to occur:

  1. Money to and from knowledge creators and the world indexer in terms of paid advertising
  2. Money from knowledge creators to platforms, SEO writers, SEO experts and other services to increase visibility
  3. Money from knowledge seekers to knowledge creators to pay them in terms of their attention (advertising), subscriptions, or one-off payments

Like I said, for all of the complaints you might have heard over the years, it was a genuinely elegant system that enabled literally trillions of dollars of wealth to be created!

The problem is, as the internet grew and matured, and global access to this knowledge became ubiquitous, some clear deficiencies in the system emerged.

The first was the explosive growth of SEO hacking. These articles, intentionally bloated (or even worse, useless listicles), served no other purpose than to get to the top of the Blue Link list and get traffic, while offering no real value to readers. Despite the World Indexers best efforts, it felt like every year the problem got worse, even as the prize for winning the blue link list race got bigger.

This generated the second deficiency. Creators and monetizers would deliberately gate knowledge behind paywalls and email funnels, creating artificial barriers to knowledge dissemination in order to increase their monetization. While I offer no judgment for this phenomenon, I would assert that this approach introduced enormous and unnecessary inefficiency in the dissemination and release of knowledge.

However, it is the third one that truly created the conditions for the AI era. It had nothing to do with the commercial inefficiencies in the system and everything to do with the ongoing requirement for knowledge synthesis.

What do I mean by this?

Imagine you want to create a new business based upon a genuinely new idea. In the blue link era, you'd have to:

  1. Write down and define your idea
  2. Do a search for how to build a business plan
  3. Trawl through thousands of links to find 'The One' that answers your questions
  4. Download whatever resource they were providing (selling!)
  5. Do another search for marketing
  6. Repeat the process
  7. Do another search for whatever your idea was
  8. Repeat the process
  9. Try to build your idea
  10. Repeat the process (or outsource)
  11. And so on

The result? The system was so complex and inefficient that most budding entrepreneurs simply had to give up. It was overwhelming, and for many of them, they spent so much time trying to figure this stuff out that they were unable to even get to the implementation of their idea.

Put another way, we had an explosion of knowledge access, but an implosion of ideation implementation

Then Came the Age of AI

When AI burst onto the scene a few years ago, it was a game-changing moment. Large Language Models, headlined by ChatGPT, introduced an incredibly powerful knowledge synthesis approach that, in hindsight, was a blindingly obvious level up in knowledge dissemination.

Consider trying to solve the same problem I introduced in the previous section. Now, using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any of the other LLMs on the market, you could:

  1. Type your query
  2. Get a synthesized answer to the question
  3. Ask subsequent questions to refine and clarify the answers

The result (again, in hindsight) was explosive. We now have a situation where the Blue Link Internet is quickly dying as people turn more and more to a far faster, more effective, and game-changing approach to searching.

However, this also breaks the ecosystem

The problem is, this approach completely disrupts knowledge creation. By inserting itself IN-BETWEEN knowledge creators and knowledge seekers, LLM systems remove incentives for knowledge creation. Now, instead of acting as a rent-taking facilitator between knowledge creators and knowledge seekers, your local world indexer of choice is acting as the sole rent-taker and attention capturer, depriving knowledge creators of much-needed revenue and capital, which they can use to grow.

Put another way, while the immediate results for knowledge seekers are significantly improved, the existing pipeline of new and improved knowledge has been broken.

This is a multi-trillion-dollar problem and, as a result, creates a multi-trillion-dollar opportunity. For the next few years, we will all be working to figure out how to win in this new era.

A quick note. Obviously, I'm just some random guy on the internet, spouting my ideas. You should absolutely take whatever I say with a grain (or spoonful) of salt and do your own research.

Breaking Down the Problem

However, it is not all doom and gloom. In fact, if we look at this problem objectively, without the weight of entrenched ideas and interests, a few things become apparent.

Firstly, the new way of knowledge seeking is a gigantic improvement on the old, blue link era. It offers tremendous advances in information-seeking efficiency and, as a result, removes many of the barriers to success that previously existed. Therefore, there is a commercial imperative to overcome any system deficiencies, and given that the commercial opportunity is in the trillions of dollars, it is exceptionally unlikely to go away.

Secondly, LLMs don't just stop with knowledge answering. Using their vast information synthesis capabilities, they go beyond simple information reporting and branch into systems that have agency - i.e., the ability to do things. This means that ideation implementation efficiency has also been addressed, which opens up a whole new world of opportunity.

Thirdly, the demand for new knowledge has dramatically increased. With new ideas and approaches being constantly born, there are now more people than ever looking for a path forward for what they have on their hearts to do.

How This Creates Opportunities

Using the assertions above as a baseline allows us to form a set of predictions about the future, which, if they turn out to be correct, will prove extremely profitable for those who capitalize on them.

Firstly, it is almost certain that a way to incentivize knowledge creation must emerge. If it doesn't, then the AI system will collapse under its own weight because people will stop using it. Just like Yahoo was decimated once its results became demonstrably worse than Google's, if LLMs don't solve this problem, then they will lose the race. Given there are trillions of dollars at stake, this result is incredibly unlikely.

Secondly, the quantity and quality of knowledge being demanded must increase. Now that many of the ideation implementation barriers have been removed, new ideas, previously dormant, will emerge. Notably, this won't just be about theoretical knowledge, but about actual implementation, proven through demonstration. There will come a time when this isn't just unusual, but the expected norm.

Thirdly, and perhaps more importantly, there is a fleeting moment where the field is wide open for the creation and implementation of new business models and ideas that will capture and own this new disruption. Everything is in place, and it's one of the reasons I often say to people: "This is your moment."

Why This Is SME's Finest Hour

All of this brings me back to what I believe is the greatest opportunity for wealth creation that has existed in the entirety of history. If you think about it, this is the best time in all of history to share your thoughts, insights, knowledge, and experience with the rest of humanity. As a society, we have the:

  1. Sharing technology, in the form of the internet and YouTube
  2. Infrastructure, in terms of our global communications networks
  3. High-quality, easily available recording and sharing mechanisms, in the form of smartphone cameras and microphones
  4. AI systems available to interpret broad ideation requirements and convert them into functional prototypes and production systems
  5. Global, easily accessible payment systems and rails to ensure that creators get compensated

Literally, the only thing that is missing is this:

High-quality, tested expertise converted into easily digestible content and resources for others

Subject Matter Experts Are Mission Critical

If you buy into my assertions so far, then this conclusion should be inevitable. People, like you, who have high-quality, experiential knowledge in any subject matter are about to find themselves in the wealth creation spotlight. They are the only thing missing from the global entrepreneurial explosion that's about to happen, and importantly, they are one of the few things that LLMs can't fake.

This is literally the entire thesis behind The Expert Revolution: your expertise has value.

Four Steps to Move Forward

If you've brought into this narrative, I want to share with you a four-step framework for capitalizing on this opportunity in this article. These steps are the foundation of what has become my YouTube Launch System course, although in the course we obviously go into far more depth.

I hope they serve you as well as they have served me, my family, and the many participants in the course so far.

Step #1: Recognize That Your Expertise Has Value

The first step is the most important, because it unlocks your internal belief in what you have to offer. I know for me, this was the hardest one to activate. Once you do so, the rest is just a process. It took me many years of self-talk and self-work to get there, and many incredibly smart people I've interacted with over the years have said the same. Truly, the biggest battlefield most of us will ever face is in the mind!

Put simply, you must realize that your expertise has value.

Not just a little value. Not just some value. Instead, you must buy into the truth that your expertise has immense value. It has value to yourself, value to your family, and value to the world. Your perspective on how things work, how things should be done, and the pitfalls to avoid is the kind of thing that people will gladly pay for because you will offer them a pathway to achieve their own dreams, goals, and future selves.

You only need to do this for a few thousand people and you will have created an emotional, spiritual, and financial legacy that will last for generations.

This isn't an easy process. In fact, in order for me to move forward, I developed The Expert Manifesto, which is a set of declarative statements I speak over myself regularly. Doing this helps me shift my mind away from unproductive, self-defeating statements and into positive, self-affirming statements that unlock my creative ability to think forward. You can access it below.

Step #2: Build a Social Profile

Once you've done your internal work, the next step is allowing people to see and connect with your expertise. This is essential because without this social profile, people will have no idea what you have to offer.

There are many excellent ways to do this, and several different global platforms that make it super easy to do so. Although it can be very intimidating and even quite scary to get started, what you will almost certainly find is a community of supportive, highly-engaged participants who will be quietly cheering you on. You will also start to experience the joy of genuinely transforming someone's life for the better as they adopt your expertise into their lives. Of course, you'll get the odd hater (I have a few), but that's ok. In the big scheme of things, that says far more about themselves than it does about you.

For me, one of the best and most effective platforms has been YouTube. For whatever reason, I have found it incredibly straightforward to use, and it is what my original business, TradeOxy, launched from. It is for this reason I created the YouTube Launch System, a course that takes people with subject matter expertise through a structured program to get them launched on YouTube.

Step #3: Create Helpful Resources

As you start building your social profile, you quickly start finding people who desire your help and partnership. I have found that over time, their questions, concerns, and challenges seem to converge around different themes, even if the themes are different for each domain of expertise.

For instance, when I was building TradeOxy, the number one question I came across was, "How do I build a profitable algorithm?"

When my wife and I started our Airbnb business, the number one question we got asked was, "How do we style an Airbnb once we've got it?"

Over the years, I have discovered that the best way to answer these questions isn't just through one-on-one conversations. Instead, it is by creating templates, frameworks, and processes that break down complex topics and make them easy to follow. This unlocks people's learning outcomes.

It also allows me to focus. Now, instead of constantly answering the same question in different ways for different people, I can invest time creating one really good resource that can be shared with an infinite number of people. This is actually better for each individual, which means I create a win-win situation (which I love).

Interestingly, it also unlocks a powerful business model. This approach, done well, creates a powerful connection between you, your brand, and your audience, and it quickly enables you to create effective, non-scammy monetization routes that will very literally transform your life and the lives of your followers.

Step #4: Build Your Own Micro-Ecosystem

The final step in this journey is building your very own micro-ecosystem that allows you to continuously deliver value to your audience. For instance, you may find that your area of expertise requires you to take on larger and larger projects, or more and more specific challenges. Powered by the new revenue streams you're developing and the advanced expertise you are offering, you will find yourself naturally building better and better systems to make it happen.

Although this step may feel far-fetched and rather outlandish, you'd be surprised how quickly this starts to happen. I know for me, when I first developed the YouTube Launch System, I was convinced it would take at least six months for it to take off. Instead, I had the first month of mentoring sessions fully booked out before I even finished creating the content. Then, I had booked out the next three months by the end of the third month.

This forced me into delivery mode, which in turn forced me to figure out how to scale the course, which in turn forced me to laser in on the concepts that had the most value, which in turn leveled up my audience's learning outcomes.

Wrapping Up

Like I said at the start of the article, I believe that the current AI Era is the greatest opportunity to create wealth in the history of humanity. It's an incredible moment, and I am very glad to be alive for it.

The sheer ease of information access, combined with the minimization of many of the ideation implementation barriers that used to exist has created a fleeting moment of opportunity that is up to you to seize. I provide you with a way to do that using my four-step framework

Remember, your expertise has value.
